It was perfect for us to go to the Chiricahua National Memorial and Coronado National Forest. The main reason for visiting the area. We were able to see birds and animals that we have not seen before. The feeds at Valley Vista Getaway were great to watch. John did a stargazing night for us. He is very knowledgeable about the night sky. It was great!

We met John when we arrived a bit earlier than the posted check-in. He and his wife very kindly let us check in early. I was so happy. I wasn't feeling the best and just needed of good rest and nice hot showers. John kindly told us about the grocery store. We ran back to town to get a couple of days of light meals. My husband caught up on all his internet stuff and shows on TV. I slept wonderfully both days and nights! I appreciate them so much for opening their property to guests. We will be back to take part in a star party and do some stargazing.

Valley Vista completely met our expectations!! The store at Animas (10 miles away) is well stocked. Breakfast at the Rodeo store and cafe is good (closed sun and Mon). Great continuous book sale at Portal Library. Don’t miss driving into Cave Creek Canyon. Hike up Silver Peak trail about 1/4 mile for great views!

Cathy and John are gracious hosts. John is a top tier amateur astronomer and with his telescope in the adjacent personal observatory gave us a "tour" of the heavens. The little house is perfectly laid out and very comfortable, spotless clean. For daytime activities Portal, AZ and Cave Creek Canyon are very close by car. Memorable!

Great stay with Cathy and John in their cabin in the desert. It was as described, a fully-equipped cabin and an observatory. The hosts were great and attentive. Being away from store of any kind meant you needed to have what you needed (bring all your food!) and I did. John was a fabulous tutor for learning about star gazing, he loves the hobby and loves sharing his passion. You won't have any regrets with this pick!

It's a great tiny getaway! Perfect size for two people who want some dark sky's and quiet time. John, the host, is very kind and caring. The star party was fun. If you stay on a clear night, definitely don't skip the telescope time.

We were looking for a remote location for astronomy and we found it! Yet there are plenty of other things to do if you don't mind a bit of a drive. John and Cathy are marvelous hosts, with a very comfortable place that has all you need for a nice stay. Pay close attention to all of the great info they have on their listing and you'll be all set.

We had a wonderful and highly memorable stay at Valley Vista Getaway. Cathy and John went above and beyond stocking the house and provided everything we might need and more, and provided very detailed information on the house / amenities. The views are breathtaking. The observatory is the perfect place to do astrophotography from some of the darkest skies in the country. John was always happy to talk astronomy and share his valuable astro insights and advice. This is a place unlike any other and we hope to visit again soon!

Thanks for your hosting.  This is a tiny but comfortable house. I got all stuff I need in the house. It's clean. The observatory is fantastic. I really enjoy the dark sky here. It's enjoyable to watch the stars, nebulas and galaxies. I hope I will be back soon.

Thank you John & Cathy - we had a wonderful time! The cottage is as cute are it is cozy, You have provided every convenience to make us feel comfortable. The mornings on the porch with a cup of coffee were a delight. As the sun rose with with the symphony of crickets and frogs (and the occasional distant coyote solo). The desert came to life with quail, hares & other such creature. But, we truly came to observe evenings. Being from the city, it was amazing to view the dark sky light up with the stars. It has been a long time since we've been able to experience such incredible sights! We truly enjoyed out time & we are excited to visit again!

What an awesome stay. Cathy & John really have put love in their vacation home, all the details have been thought out, like the guidebook that explains everything from how the WiFi and TV works to what restaurants and grocery stores are in the area. If you love the night skies, John is a treasure trove of information & the observatories are one of the highlights of your stay. The bed was super comfortable, the new AC unit & the ceiling fans kept the home cool. The shower was relaxing after a day's hike in Cave Creek Canyon, which is stunning... worth the visit! We definitely hope to return to Cathy & Johns place for a longer stay.

The house was particularly well supplies and in good maintenance. Having the observatory close to the house was great. Observatory was well built and maintained. The Animas store, about 10 miles away was well stocked for being in the middle of nowhere. Be sure to drive into Cave Creek Canyon and over to Bisbee, AZ.

Enjoyable stay for birding. We enjoyed the Gamble and Scaled Quail right outside the bedroom window, as well as rabbits, jackrabbits, coyote and the stargazing. About 20 minutes easy drive to Cave Creek Canyon for more birding, where we had a great look at the Elegant Trogon. Hosts were right next door and very helpful.
